Elauwit named second-fastest growing company in South Jersey
Company records revenue growth of 2,043 percent from 2004-2006
Haddonfield, NJ - Despite widespread industry trends that indicate newspapers are headed the way of buggy makers, a South Jersey newspaper publisher has been named the region's fastest-growing business.
Elauwit, publisher of weekly newspapers and a monthly business publication, is No. 2 on the 2007 South Jersey 25 list. The distinction recognizes the 25 fastest-growing privately held companies in the South Jersey region. The honor is presented by the Philadelphia Business Journal and the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Rowan University.
"Elauwit's success proves that newspapers are far from extinct. Under the right management, and employing the right principles, they can thrive," Dan McDonough, Jr., Elauwit chairman and chief executive, said. "We're No. 2 in South Jersey for one simple reason: We deliver for our advertisers. Relevant newspapers still are the best sources of local news and still the best way for local, regional and national merchants to reach their customers."
Elauwit is founded on a simple business model: "Everybody Gets It. Everybody Reads It." The company's weekly newspapers are mailed to everyone in a local community. The papers are packed with useful local news and photos that cannot be found elsewhere. The combination of 100 percent market penetration and timely news stories has been quite successful.
Elauwit grew revenue 2,043 percent in the past three years, from $88,200 in 2004 to $1.89 Million in 2006.
And the growth hasn't stopped yet. In fact, on August 22, 2007, Elauwit will expand its circulation in South Jersey by about a third. The company will bring total weekly circulation from about 60,000 to about 80,000 when it expands The Cherry Hill Sun from the east side of Cherry Hill to reach the entire township every week. With this expansion, Elauwit's circulation in South Jersey will rival or beat the circulation of the regional daily papers in the market.
"If Elauwit's philosophy didn't work, not only would we not be rated the fastest-growing business in South Jersey, we would be out of business," Elauwit General Manager Alan Bauer said. "In any business, it's all about results. The hamburger stand has to make the best burgers. The dress shop has to sell the best dresses at the best prices. We deliver quality local news that people have to read. As a result, our advertisers get a tremendous response from their ads."
Elauwit has weekly newspapers in the prestigious South Jersey communities of Haddonfield, Moorestown, Cherry Hill, Voorhees and Marlton. Its monthly South Jersey Business Trends is mailed to business leaders throughout the region.
Elauwit launched The Haddonfield Sun in 2004 with two employees. In 2005, it added South Jersey Business Trends, The Moorestown Sun, The Voorhees Sun and The Cherry Hill Sun. The Marlton Telegram was launched in 2006. For more information about Elauwit, visit www.elauwit.com.
